Children 6-15

When I first came into care I was scared but they made me feel safe at home and I felt part of their family. You might find it difficult to fit in but you will and people will understand if you don’t like it.

Advice

flowerOur tips and advice

“It’s okay to feel scared and uncertain. It is the job of your social worker, and the people that care for you to help you to feel safe and comfortable”

“You are not alone and while your journey is your own, there are lots of other young people with similar experiences to you”

“There are groups you can join where you can meet children from similar backgrounds and where you can have your voice heard. These are called the Living In Care Council (LinCC) and Change For Care Leavers (CFCL)”

“Try to tell people how you are feeling”

“Try and see the positives even though it may difficult”

“Don’t be forced in to anything you don’t want to do”

“If you don’t ask you don’t get”

“You are entitled to a mentor/independent visitor who you can talk to, especially if you don’t trust any of the adults around you”
