Corporate Parenting Fun Day
Our Corporate Parenting Fun Day
The Corporate Parenting Fun day event was on the 28th July 2019 it was at the Civic Centre and LinCC were involved in organising the day. In preparation the LinCC Members had to organise things like: the reception, decorations, directing people, the equipment needed on the day, activities, prices, food an many more. LinCC came up with some brilliant ideas such as themes for the day and then we voted for our favourite ones. LinCC agreed that the theme for this year’s event was Culture Fusion. Culture Fusion is about us all sharing our identities and learning about everyone else’s background. We also wanted to make the point that even though we are all different we are one big family.
The idea of the fun day theme was approved by Councillor Fortune the Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Education, Children and Families and Janet Bailey the Director for Children Services, we interviewed them for our first newsletter.
Before the event LinCC members had to bring in some food samples from their country to share with each other. We described the food we brought in and what it meant to us as individuals, whether it be a good or bad memory. For me sharing food with everyone else was a nice experience. We tasted food from Ireland, Jamaica, Vietnam, Guyana, UK, Ivory Coast and France. As you can see we are a very diverse group. On the fun day LinCC members had to wear black jeans, a black t-shirt with their countries flag printed on it to represent their background. In this case the LinCC members will only wear those t-shirts and were the team leaders for the Olympics event.
The day itself was amazing. We had about 150 people attend. The food was delicious, homemade pizzas, a BBQ, paella, ice cream and Krispy Kreme doughnuts. All of the LinCC members lead a team of other children, social workers, managers and councillors in an all out Olympic style event. We represented South Africa, UK, France, Romania and Vietnam. Can you guess what team won?
Of course it was South Africa????
LinCC also raised over £800 auctioning off photography for buying housewarming gifts for Care Leavers. Overall we were super proud of the day and the photos will show you how amazing it was. Please make sure you join us next year.
