Bromley’s fostering service is responsible for recruiting, training, supporting and supervising a range of foster carers who live in and around the Borough. Those foster carers care for looked after children and young people in their homes.
Foster carers have to be very committed to gain approval at Bromley’s Fostering panel and their approval is reviewed annually. The fostering team and the approved foster carers work closely with the other services within the borough to make sure that the needs of looked after children are the main focus.
Our team feel that it is important to listen to young people so we work closely with the Living in Care Council (LinCC):
• Recently LinCC helped our team to produce a DVD that will help recruit new foster carers.
• LinCC are soon to be involved in training our foster carers on their skills to foster training so that our carers understand the needs of young people
• LinCC helped create foster carer profile templates which we hope will help young people feel more at ease in their new placement and encourage more stability.
• LinCC have also been involved in supporting us with our foster carer handbooks that we give out to new foster carers.
At the moment the fostering team is currently developing their own website which contains a lot of detailed information. When this is finished we will be sure to put up a link to our site.
